JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

As part of the Learning & Development team, the Senior Instructional Designer will serve as the instruction design subject matter expert; leading and executing design, development, utilization, coordination and evaluation of processes and resources for learning. The Senior Instructional Designer shall develop courses and curriculums, and training materials such as teaching manuals and student guides, in close coordination with Program and Department leadership.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • L&D Leadership:
    • Design Instructional Systems and Learning Models
    • Create educational content
      • Instructor-led training
      • Web-based training (eLearning)
      • Virtual Training / Webinars
      • Train the Trainers
      • On-the-Job Training
    • Design and revamp both new and established learning models
    • Implement feedback from program reviews
    • Train others on how to deliver learning material
    • As the senior instructional design expert, mentors and guides (teaches) others in instructional design – ensuring appropriate instructional design principles and ensuring quality instructional design
    • Research new innovations in both learning design and education
  • Instructional Design Planning and Analysis
    • Conduct needs assessments for various VOALA programs and departments
    • Conduct learner analyses to match training materials to identified needs
    • Design a curriculum and training materials to address identified needs
    • Select and use a variety of techniques for determining instructional content, based on the characteristics of the learning environment, the learners, and the available technologies
  • Design and Development Tasks
    • Select, modify, or create a design and development model appropriate for a given project.
    • Select and use a variety of techniques to define and sequence the instructional content and strategies.
    • Select or modify existing instructional materials.
    • Develop instructional materials.
    • Design instruction that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learners and groups of learners.
    • Evaluate and assess instruction and its impact.
  • Implementation and coordination
    • Plan and coordinate instructional design projects
    • Promote collaboration, partnerships and relationships among the participants in a design project
    • Apply business skills to managing instructional design
    • Design instructional management systems
    • Provide for the effective implementation of instructional products and programs
  • Facilitate Training events and programs – Conduct training and Train-the-Trainer
    • Instructor-led training
    • Virtual Training / Webinars
    • Train-the-Trainer
  • Other tasks as may be required to support organization’s learning and development

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor degree in education with emphasis on adult learning or similar discipline

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of four years of experience designing instruction or other similar role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Education (MEd) emphasis in adult learning, or similar discipline
  • Experience working with information in a database (e.g. data input, creating and running reports)
  • Familiarity with social services and related issues
  • Previous work with online training portals/systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
