PAY RATE: $20.51 - $21.59 PER HOUR

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

This position will help initiate, facilitate, and to continuously improve, the safety practices and procedures for residential and non-residential facilities. Works closely with the VOALA Facilities and Accessibility Manager, VOALA Program Managers and SCADP Program Managers in education on emergency procedures and life safety codes pertaining to emergencies, disasters, fire, OSHA, licensing, and program requirements. Assists in monitoring and practicing procedures and requirements throughout the program year. Will also train staff and programs on safety and emergency preparedness regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Communicates safety materials.
  • Participates in on-going monitoring of systems that involve emergency preparedness principles and the Environmental Health and Safety protocols.
  • Records any un-safe safety practices at multiple locations and communicates any concerns to supervisor or team lead.
  • Provides employees resources on safety practices and disaster preparedness.
  • Follows up and provides reports on safety findings from safety walks to supervisor.
  • Supports staff and facilities in emergency evacuation drills and communication within programs.
  • Assist in minor operations that might include the following:
    • Attending community meetings and bringing back resources
    • Networking with emergency personnel such as Fire Dept. /Police Dept.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness community events and meetings
  • Regular tasks may also include:
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings/trainings
    • Support supervisor by attending/support monthly events or functions at sites
    • Take minutes at safety meetings or safety committee

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Proof at time of hire a Tuberculosis (TB) clearance and Health screening within 6 month prior to hire date. Annual influenza vaccination (between Aug1-Dec 1) Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization, Health screening.
  • Must hold class 3 California Drivers License and proper insurance as required with an acceptable driving record substantiated by a copy of DMV records. Must have access to an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a valid California driver’s license, or means to other accessible transportation.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or one-year related experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of experience with health and safety principles.
  • 1-year experience working in congregate settings that may include, DPH, DPSS, Regional Center, Jails, Rehabilitation, Shelters or VA programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA or safety certificates.
  • Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certified (Required within 12 months of hire)
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness practices.
  • LADBS Zimas, google earth, visio
